Recently, the Harris Corporation was awarded an IDIQ contract with a potential total value of $38 million to supply military communications and field assistance to international partners of the U.S. Southern Command. Harris received $7.7 million in delivery orders in the first quarter of fiscal 2012 to supply Falcon tactical radios for the program.

The U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command (USASMDC/ARSTRAT) awarded the four-year contract. The contract is part of the U.S. Government’s counter-illicit trafficking program, which focuses on collaboration.

Group President of Harris RF Communications Dana Mehnert said, “This contract establishes a vehicle for Harris to support nations in Southern Command’s Area of Responsibility with world-class Falcon tactical radios and integrated communication system solutions. These radios and systems will deliver enhanced situational awareness and command and control technology in addressing the persistent problem of illicit trafficking. Our portfolio will provide the communication capabilities users need for mission success.”

The contract covers a program with certified Harris trainers and engineers providing operator and maintenance support throughout the region. It also provides a logistics to support the inventory of existing Falcon II radios as well as a path to upgrade to Falcon III radios.
