Granicus has named two general managers to lead its U.S. federal and local government businesses as the company moves to align its AI and platform roadmap more directly with agency needs.

John Boerstler, a former chief experience officer at the Department of Veterans Affairs, will head the federal practice. At the VA, he oversaw enterprise customer acquisition and experience strategies, enrolling millions of veterans into benefits and healthcare programs.

He also held executive roles at Ipsos, helped establish Ukraine’s Ministry of Veterans Affairs and served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Stu MacFarlane will lead the local government practice. He most recently  served as president of TransForce, where he drove digital transformation in the transportation sector and built partnerships with the U.S. military. Earlier in his career, he was chief marketing officer for WebMD and founded multiple digital marketplace companies.

Granicus CEO Mark Hynes said the company is investing at the intersection of technology and human experience.

“We believe that the fusion of modern technology, AI, and a deep understanding of the highly unique government context has the power to deliver unprecedented impact on public sector outcomes,” he added. “This scale of innovation, experimentation, change management and impact can only be achieved through close collaboration, trust and partnership with our customer community – the design point for our new Granicus GMs.”

The new structure gives agency customers dedicated senior-level partners and feeds government priorities directly into Granicus’ product roadmap, including its AI-powered Government Experience Agent and Government Experience Insights tools.
