General Dynamics Information Technology has supported the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in securing measurable cost savings through the General Services Administration’s OneGov program with Amazon Web Services, marking the first time a federal agency has realized savings through the initiative.
GDIT operates and manages CMS’ Hybrid Cloud Products and Tools contract, one of the largest hybrid multicloud environments in the federal government. The platform supports systems that provide health insurance access for over 160 million Americans through Medicare, Medicaid and Marketplace programs.
The company also provides cloud financial operations services that give CMS real-time visibility into multicloud usage and forecasting, helping the agency optimize operations and drive additional cost savings.
Working with AWS, GDIT moved CMS onto the OneGov program and transitioned new applications to the cloud, generating millions in taxpayer savings in under 60 days. Combined with GDIT discounts and FinOps efficiencies, the savings are helping CMS fund digital modernization efforts for seniors and vulnerable populations.
“This milestone demonstrates how GDIT’s mission expertise and partnerships with commercial technology companies advances innovation at speed and scale for government agencies,” said Kamal Narang, GDIT’s senior vice president for federal health. “Enabling agencies to translate technology efficiencies into mission outcomes are at the core of what we do. We look forward to continuing our work with CMS and reimagining ways to drive cost effective modernization efforts and deliver measurable impact.”
