Nokia has unveiled two new defense communications products, expanding its tactical portfolio with a military smartphone and an upgraded 5G radio system.
The Nokia Mission-Safe Phone is a hardened smartphone built for resilience, security and performance. Developed in Europe with a Qualcomm long-lifecycle chipset, the device is designed as an open platform for military applications, accessories and integration. It is MIL-Standard 810H and IP68 certified for durability, supports high-bandwidth and data-heavy missions, and comes in three variants tailored to different operational needs.
Nokia also introduced an upgraded version of its Banshee Tactical Radio, now with 5G capability. The portable “network in a box” system is built for rapid deployment, stronger security and low-latency communications, enabling units to set up reliable networks in contested environments.
The company said the new systems are designed to give defense forces secure, high-performance communications at the tactical edge, supporting real-time intelligence sharing and mission coordination. Visitors can see the products this week at the DSEI defense exhibition in London.
“By harnessing the power of 5G and edge computing, Nokia is accelerating the digital transformation of battlespace,” said Giuseppe Targia, head of space and defense at Nokia. “This launch marks a step toward unified battlefield communications. With the Nokia Mission-Safe Phone and the Nokia Banshee 5G Tactical radio, we’re enabling next-generation connectivity and resilience. And with our fully integrated tactical communications ecosystem, we are uniquely positioned to meet the complete end-to-end needs of modern defense operations.”
