    Chief Medical Officer, Microsoft Federal

For Dr. Thomas Osborne, supporting federal health care initiatives is about delivering the operational infrastructure and efficiencies needed to empower government today so federal employees have the bandwidth and resources to lead tomorrow’s advancements.

It’s a key goal that leans into robust public-private partnerships and participation from a workforce with access to the latest technologies. That’s why Microsoft Federal’s parallel AI education and career development efforts are a critical bridge between today’s capabilities and tomorrow’s innovations, he said.

    Why Watch

In 2025, Osborne’s teams are fundamentally dedicated to empowering others’ success and are primarily focused on operational effectiveness and efficiency. They are collaborating with federal partners to address their most pressing challenges, such as streamlining workflows, extracting insights from data, and improving care delivery.

“In close partnership with our federal employees and leadership, Microsoft teams are collaborating closely with our federal partners to develop and deploy cutting-edge solutions for our country,” Osborne said. “We are mission-driven to empower federal staff with the tools and infrastructure they want to eliminate time-consuming tasks, outdated workflows and unnecessary redundancies.”

He said by leveraging Microsoft’s world-class secure cloud platform, with a diversity of over 1,800 advanced AI models, federal employees can now use both prebuilt as well as their own custom-designed AI solutions. Additionally, the company’s career development programs, including AI teaching and training opportunities, are preparing a workforce ready to lead the next industrial revolution.

Microsoft Federal Civilian General Manager Dan Coleman said Osborne drives innovation by integrating advanced technologies into health care systems.

“His leadership in AI, big data, cloud computing and more has resulted in transformative solutions that enhance patient care and operational efficiency,” Coleman said. “Dr. Osborne’s dedication to improving health care for veterans and his groundbreaking initiatives have earned him prestigious awards and made a profound impact on the industry.”

Fun Fact: In his younger years, Osborne saved up to take spontaneous trips around the world with little more than a small backpack. While his initial goal was adventure, he discovered much more — including shared humanity, deep kindness and, at times, profound disparity. These experiences motivated him to pursue scalable medical advancements to benefit diverse national and international communities.
