    James Thornbrugh, Magellan Federal

    James Thornbrugh

    President, Magellan Federal

As James Thornbrugh assumed leadership of Magellan Federal’s Military Counseling Division three years ago, he defined strategic objectives around timely and effective counseling services and mission engagement.

His team produced evidence-informed practices, sound processes and a focus on a high-quality service driven by data. The plan and execution resulted in organic and new business growth that increased the division revenue by 100% annually, he said.

Derrick Duke, CEO of Magellan Health, said Thornbrugh is an experienced behavioral health management executive with a record of “purposeful growth, disciplined program execution and stellar customer service.”

“As president of our federal market, James leads over 2,500 dedicated individuals through a mission-focused commitment to help empower our nation’s fighting forces, federal civilian employees and their families,” Duke said.

    Why Watch

In 2025, Thornbrugh and his team will build on Magellan Federal’s success as he steps into the role of president, focusing on improving processes to deliver solutions that help the federal workforce and military personnel lead healthier, more productive lives.

“The people we serve deserve the very best, and we are committed to continuing to evolve to meet those needs,” he said. “I am committed to building one team working towards one mission: to deliver timely, effective wellness and productivity capabilities across social, emotional, career, financial, physical and community dimensions.”

Fun fact: Thornbrugh is an original video gamer. His first system was an Intellivision.
