    Byron Love, Nightwing

    Byron Love

    Cybersecurity Program Director, Nightwing

Advanced threat actors are increasingly targeting the U.S. critical infrastructure, including federal government agencies, water treatment facilities and communication networks. These attackers use sophisticated techniques to remain undetected on victim networks, making their intrusions more challenging to detect and address compared to traditional methods.

At the same time, artificial intelligence is revolutionizing cybersecurity, presenting both significant challenges and groundbreaking defenses. As the digital landscape grows more intricate, the use of AI by both defenders and malicious actors is intensifying the cyber arms race.

Byron Love and his team of more than 200 cybersecurity professionals at Nightwing face the challenge of responding to the unprecedented volume and intensity of cyber threats impacting the nation’s critical infrastructure. “I had the privilege of assembling an outstanding team, watching my team members grow professionally, creating a culture of excellence, and working alongside mission-driven pros with high standards,” said Love. “Our collective goal is to achieve the highest level of customer satisfaction by supporting our clients in mitigating the Nation’s most severe cyber threats.”

Jon Check, vice president of cyber protection solutions at Nightwing, said:

“Byron has been instrumental in building a team that excels at protecting our nation from ever-evolving cyber threats. His unique blend of technical expertise and leadership, along with his forward-thinking mindset and focus on AI-driven solutions, has made a tremendous impact on both our team and our clients.”

    Why Watch

In 2024, Love and his team are sharply focused on enabling AI-driven cybersecurity defenses to meet the growing scale and sophistication of cyberattacks. “I’m excited about being part of Nightwing’s transition to a standalone company with deep cybersecurity and AI talent,” said Love. “I look forward to continued opportunities to contribute to Nightwing’s growth.”

As the author of “IT Project Management: A Geek’s Guide to Leadership,” Love aims to build his career at the intersection of program management and cybersecurity. “I intend to lead and assist our teams in deploying effective AI-enabled cybersecurity solutions that enable cyber defense at scale,” Love stated.

“This involves integrating data analytics and data science into the cybersecurity workforce and enhancing productivity through AI augmentation for our cyber analysts. By doing so we empower more junior personnel to defend against higher volumes of increasingly complex attacks while enabling more senior people to focus on more sophisticated attacks.”

Fun Fact: Byron is one of the few individuals worldwide to hold both the PMI Program Management Professional (PgMP) and the ISC2 Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certifications. In addition to his professional accomplishments, he volunteers his time with a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping African Americans advance in technology careers.
