The finalists for WashingtonExec’s 2024 Pinnacle Awards were announced Sept. 20, and we’ll be highlighting some of them until the event takes place live, in-person Nov. 21.

Next is Stephen Deitz, president of ManTech’s federal civilian sector, and finalist in the Healthcare Executive of the Year, Private Company, category. Here, he talks about recent achievements, shares career advice and more.

What key achievements did you have in 2024?

    • Led ManTech to receive its certification with the FinOps Foundation as a certified FinOps service provider, as well as becoming a Certified FinOps practitioner.
    • Launched ManTech’s strategy to drive modernization of IT systems for veterans and military healthcare organizations.

What are your primary focus areas going forward, and why are those so important to the mission?

    • Operationalizing data using trusted AI to enhance decision making at the edge by bringing digital to the mission.
    • Optimizing cloud spend to drive improved mission outcomes, IT modernization and reducing technical debt.

What is your best career advice for those who want to follow in your footsteps?

    • Be curious, don’t expect opportunities to drop out of the sky, look for them, create them, and always be learning.
    • Never say ‘no’ to a new opportunity or project. There is always a benefit to doing different things even if those benefits are not obvious.
