The finalists for WashingtonExec’s 2024 Pinnacle Awards were announced Sept. 20, and we’ll be highlighting some of them until the event takes place live, in-person Nov. 21.
Next is Kevin Kaiser, vice president and performance and readiness division manager at Leidos, and finalist in the Healthcare Executive of the Year, Public Company, category. Here, he shares primary focus areas going forward, career advice and more.
What are your primary focus areas going forward, and why are those so important to the mission?
Our focus going forward is on integrating data and technology to provide comprehensive insights into service member readiness. Addressing challenges such as siloed data and the lack of standardized metrics will be key. By connecting disparate data sets and applying advanced analytics, we aim to enhance decision-making and resource allocation across the military health system. Additionally, we will continue to develop innovative training, counseling, and health solutions that address the evolving needs of service members and their families. These efforts are essential to ensuring mission success and improving the quality of life for those who serve.
What is your best career advice for those who want to follow in your footsteps?
I would emphasize the importance of servant leadership — putting your team’s needs first and leading by example. Encourage innovation, embrace new challenges and always focus on the mission’s broader impact. Developing strong communication and collaboration skills is also crucial, as the best leaders foster environments where people feel supported and valued. Lastly, stay passionate about your work and never stop learning. The ability to adapt and grow will ensure long-term success, both for yourself and those you lead.
Fun Fact: What is something about you that most people do not know about?
I am just as passionate about improving performance, readiness and resilience outside of work hours as I am during work hours. Whether it’s fitness, sleep optimization, cognitive performance, nutrition, or mindfulness — by exploring what’s new, novel and cutting edge in these areas in my personal life, it keeps me directly connected to the innovations we deliver for military health and our customers. Never miss an opportunity to make your best, better!
