David McKeown
Senior Information Security Officer & Deputy Chief Information Officer for Cybersecurity, Department of Defense
David McKeown oversees all cybersecurity policies and programs for the Defense Department, leading the department’s cybersecurity efforts and governance. He collaborates with industry to strengthen cybersecurity and information sharing through the Defense Industrial Base and represents the DoD in international negotiations on cybersecurity topics in both bilateral and multilateral forums. He also sets the department’s cybersecurity investment priorities and provides guidance to various components.
Why Watch
With over 35 years of DoD experience, including 27 years in the Air Force and 8 years as a civilian, McKeown has led numerous high-profile cybersecurity initiatives. As an Air Force cyberspace operations officer, he managed the Air Force Cybersecurity Program on the Air Staff. He also served as the director of enterprise information and mission assurance for the Army IT Agency, and led the Pentagon Computer Incident Response Team, providing 24/7 network security, intrusion detection and incident response for DoD leadership.
Before his current role, McKeown led the Justice Department’s Service Delivery Staff, overseeing IT acquisitions, development and operations while ensuring high-quality, customer-focused service delivery across DOJ components.
