Kathie Powers
CFO, Riverside Research
Riverside Research experienced double-digit year-over-year growth, winning every recompete it was eligible for in 2023. To support such growth, Kathie Powers expanded her department and mentored and developed what she describes as “a wonderful team of financial experts.”
“This is one of the most rewarding parts of my job, and I’m very proud of our team,” she said.
Riverside Research President and CEO Dr. Steven Omick said Powers “embodies the qualities of a consummate professional” and is “a true pleasure to work with.”
As Riverside Research has grown significantly over the years, she has consistently been at the forefront, guiding us with innovative financial strategies that keep pace with our growth and anticipate our expanding needs,” he said. “Her deep business acumen and unwavering focus on the core issues are invaluable assets as we navigate the complex challenges of scaling and leading our vital national security nonprofit.”
Why Watch
In 2024, Powers’ team is heavily focused on laying the foundation for new financial reporting software systems and platforms, which will launch in 2025. This software will provide enhanced forecasting, project reporting dashboards and more, giving all Riverside Research employees access to the most important and timely reports and information available. Continuously improving such processes allows Riverside Research to do more for the customer in the most efficient way possible, Powers said.
“I feel very fortunate to be part of Riverside Research and work alongside some of the most brilliant scientific minds in the industry,” Powers said. “The real stars at Riverside Research are our technical employees, and their unparalleled talent, and the way they combine scientific precision with creativity to solve big government problems efficiently. I love learning about what they do – every day there is something new to do and learn.”
Fun fact: Many are unaware of Powers’ time as a flautist in the Army Command Band. A proud veteran, she fondly reflects on her experience, during which she spent more than nine months each year traveling. In addition to playing the flute, she also served as a vocalist and played the piccolo and piano in the band for over three years.
