For Tracy Nguyen, leading the transition from a small 8(a) company to a large business Employee Ownership Plan-owned company was her biggest recent achievement.
During her time at Highlight, she led a number of system changes for the company to help it reach the “next level” of maturity as a government contractor, including moves to a new accounting system, payroll system and 401K provider. Highlight was a winner of the Deltek Insight Most Valuable Project Awards, for rapidly implementing Deltek at Highlight in a three-week period.
In addition to financial strategy and the big picture, Nguyen personally reviews and ensures the accuracy of each timesheet, payroll entry, invoice and payment. She ensures Highlight remains compliant with federal, state and local laws, and works with multiple agencies including DCAA, GSA, tax agencies, employment agencies and more.
Nguyen also develops the company’s corporate budget, annual and multiyear projections, and manages cash flow effectively. As the head of the finance department, she interacts with other corporate managers such as HR, contracts and operations. Nguyen provides ongoing training to the program managers on financial management practices and the use of the company’s project-based financial management tools and reporting features.
Why Watch
In 2024, Nguyen and her team will be focused on organic growth as well as mergers and acquisitions in the next coming years. The road ahead will be a challenging, but she believes with a good system, process and strong team in place, the company will overcome and meet the targets.
Fun fact: Nguyen’s family tells her she is an amazing cook, and her youngest son wants her to open a restaurant.
