The finalists for WashingtonExec’s 2024 Pinnacle Awards were announced Sept. 20, and we’ll be highlighting some of them until the event takes place live, in-person Nov. 21.
Next is Dave Weber, vice president of business development at CACI, and finalist in the Business Development Executive of the Year, Public Company, category. Here, he talks about primary focus areas going forward, shares career advice and more.
What are your primary focus areas going forward, and why are those so important to the mission?
My portfolio spans the Intelligence Community, federal civilian agencies and the Department of Defense, but my focus has always remained the same as it was on day one: the end user. Going forward, my primary focus will be securing large, game-changing enterprise IT deals that ensure the end user is always at the center of our approach. Whether it is developing modern, secure systems or delivering cloud architectures that support mission-critical operations, my goal is to help our warfighters, analysts, and government personnel stay ahead of evolving challenges.
The importance of this focus cannot be overstated. By prioritizing the end user, we ensure that the solutions we deliver are practical, efficient, and, most importantly, effective. Our work on contracts like the $5.7 billion Air Force Enterprise IT as a Service Wave 1 task order, the $1.3 billion U.S. European Command and U.S. Africa Command Enterprise Level Information Technology Expertise task order, and the $12.5 billion Air Force Base Infrastructure and Modernization IDIQ has been vital for empowering U.S. military and government customers with the tools they need to operate seamlessly, whether in the battlefield or on the home front. Securing future deals that play to our strengths will not only help CACI grow but will directly contribute to supporting the nation’s critical missions and ensuring our customers’ long-term success.
What is your best career advice for those who want to follow in your footsteps?
The best career advice I can offer is to never lose focus on your original goal. Over the course of your career, you’ll encounter shifting timelines, new challenges, and changes in direction, but it’s crucial to remember why you started in the first place. For me, that goal has always been to do work that would make my children and grandchildren proud. Their support has been a driving force behind my recent success in securing multiple billion-dollar contract awards and helping CACI achieve unprecedented growth. While companies, portfolios, and responsibilities may evolve, staying true to that end goal is what keeps you grounded and motivated. It’s easy to get distracted by the noise, but if you remain focused and committed to what matters most, success will follow.
Fun Fact: What is something about you that most people do not know?
A fun fact about me that many people don’t know is that I once hiked Glacier National Park for four nights and five days — without any gear. My luggage got lost on the flight into Montana, but I didn’t let that stop me from completing the adventure. It was a challenging experience, but one that taught me to adapt and overcome, no matter the obstacles.
