Laurell Aiton
Chief Administrative Officer, SMX
Laurell Aiton led the contracting team to evolve into a core strategic partner within the business. Today, the department is an integral part of the organization by being present throughout the entire contract lifecycle, from initial capture of the contract through award and scope execution.
Working closely with internal stakeholders as well as clients, Aiton and her team ensure seamless integration and measurable outcomes while focusing on mission support and not only on required contractual functions.
“Every day I am impressed with the expert knowledge of our contracts team,” Aiton said. “Not only in their traditional contract management acumen, but also in their ability to create relationships with their internal and external clients, which are both foundational to being successful and valued business partners. I learn from them daily and rely on them tremendously.”
Why Watch
In 2024, Aiton and her team are focused on identifying a contracting lifecycle management system where they expect to see not only quantifiable metrics to measure success and productivity, but also integration of departments across the Business Partner Support organization to include procurement, accounting, finance and the chief growth office. This system will unify and streamline all contractual functions across the business, so SMX can seamlessly track and ensure they’re exceeding strategic objectives.
“Laurell is a valued member of our executive leadership team and trusted partner to me as CEO,” said Peter LaMontagne, SMX CEO. “The work her team executes every day is critical to our clients’ mission success, which is our core purpose at SMX.”
Fun fact: “I recently completed the Disney Dopey Challenge,” Aiton said. “The event consists of four consecutive days of races to include a 5K, 10K, half marathon and full marathon, in completion totaling 48.6 miles.”
