Greg Clifton,
General Manager of the Defense & National Security Group, Intel
In 2023, Greg Clifton and his team at Intel successfully developed and delivered new multi-chip package prototypes to the Defense Department six quarters ahead of schedule under the SHIP program, advancing the objective of reestablishing the United States as a leader in microelectronics production. These new prototypes helped the agency support new edge computing capabilities, marking a significant step on its journey to digital transformation.
This achievement followed a year of collaboration with the DOD in developing and implementing Intel solution architectures that optimized the agency’s cyber interoperability and achieved a return on investment for key military programs, including the Cloud One platform and the Air Force’s Platform One software factory.
Amidst the rising complexity of operations, Clifton and his team have been pivotal in crafting solutions for Intel’s defense clients that provide enhanced security and meet mission performance while also reducing unnecessary costs.
“My team is dedicated to assisting our Defense customers in reaching their fullest potential,” Clifton said. “Over the past year, we’ve worked diligently to harness cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence and advanced sensing to help meet their goals. This effort, in combination with our partners, has not only strengthened our country’s national security but also helped address key challenges like supply chain diversification.”
Why Watch
In 2024, Clifton and his team will be working closely with the DOD’s scientific and procurement professionals to understand how AI and advanced sensing can be leveraged for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. Intel has developed an architecture that can enable inference and analysis at the edge while still leveraging the cloud and the data center to analyze results and trends at scale.
Greg’s team will also be partnering with Intel’s defense customers to continue building and supplying highly scalable security and custom chip manufacturing services through Intel’s Foundry.
“Greg Clifton and his team work hand-in-hand with their Defense customers and have a ‘mission-first; mindset,” said Cameron Chereh, vice president and general manager of Intel Public Sector. “The team’s tactical and technological expertise is integral to ensuring that our defense and security customers achieve mission goals and can take advantage of innovative approaches and technologies.
