    Michael Smith, Arcfield

    Michael Smith

Executive Vice President & Chief Security Officer, Arcfield

At Arcfield, security is considered far more than just a support function ⏤ it is an absolute necessity to business operations and integrated into every facet of the organization. This is not a responsibility Mike Smith takes lightly.

In just two years as CSO, Smith built a robust and agile enterprise security program that played a pivotal role in Arcfield’s ability to conduct business, grow the enterprise and ensure mission success for its customers. Smith and his team implemented cutting-edge strategies to protect the company’s network and interests. His methodology relies on a layered approach to security, which mitigates the opportunity for adversaries to exploit systems.

According to Smith, there is no room for failure when protecting the nation’s critical infrastructure and assets.

“In times when our adversaries are advancing their capabilities both technically and tactically, and at rapid speed, we must remain dynamic and diligent in how we predict, monitor and mitigate the risks that are designed to exploit our interests or information,” he said.

As a result of his team’s efforts, Arcfield completed a voluntary early assessment program affiliated with the newest Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification initiative, achieved excellent ratings across customer security award fee scores throughout 2023, and seamlessly integrated two newly acquired entities into Arcfield’s enterprise security infrastructure.

    Why Watch

In 2024 and beyond, you can find Smith and his team looking for ways to create new value for the rapidly growing enterprise, starting with building an even more connected corporate security posture.

“Mike’s commitment to protecting our customers’ missions, our people and our enterprise is second to none,” said Kevin Kelly, chairman and CEO of Arcfield. “His dedication to the work we are entrusted to support is exemplified by the failsafe infrastructure and robust security program he has built, backed by a supportive and talented team that works tirelessly to achieve 100% security.”

Fun fact: Smith is deeply passionate about outdoor activities. When he’s not overseeing security operations, you might find him exploring new trails by quad, motorcycle or on foot. He credits regular personal exercise as a crucial element of his professional success, emphasizing that maintaining a balance of mental and physical health is key to staying effective and focused at work, no matter the length or location of his workday.
