Intel Corp. has named Kevin O’Buckley senior vice president and general manager of Foundry Services, which handles customer service and ecosystem operations for Intel Foundry.
O’Buckley will also join Intel’s executive leadership team and report directly to CEO Pat Gelsinger. He takes over from Stuart Pann, who is retiring after 35 years but will stay on as an adviser until the end of May.
Intel Foundry Services encompasses the company’s technology development, global manufacturing and customer support for producing chips designed for artificial intelligence-driven computing.
“Kevin brings a unique blend of expertise from across the semiconductor industry, having served as a senior leader and technologist in both foundry and fabless companies,” Gelsinger said. “As we continue building the world’s first systems foundry for the AI era, Kevin will play a critical role in helping customers achieve their goals by leveraging Intel Foundry’s unique ability to deliver process and packaging technology through a resilient and sustainable supply chain.”
O’Buckley brings over 25 years of experience in the semiconductor industry to his new role at Intel. Most recently, he was the senior vice president of hardware engineering at Marvell Technologies’ Custom, Compute and Storage Group. He joined Marvell following its 2019 acquisition of Avera Semiconductor, where he was chief executive.
O’Buckley also held a significant position as vice president of product development at Global Foundries and spent over 17 years at IBM, leading technology development and manufacturing organizations. In his role at Intel, he will work closely with senior leaders of Intel Foundry to establish the first system foundry tailored for the AI era, alongside collaborating with electronic design automation partners.
