The finalists for WashingtonExec’s Chief Officer Awards were announced March 28, and we’ll be highlighting some of them until the event takes place live, in-person May 10.
Next is Tom Peitler, chief operating officer of ANALYGENCE, and finalist in the Private Company Chief Operating Officer category. Here, he shares key achievements, focus areas going forward, career advice and more.
What key achievements did you have in 2023?
ANALYGENCE has grown tremendously over the last three years. Specifically in 2023, ANALYGENCE has doubled its revenues and staff from 2022 to 2023. I am incredibly proud of the way that we prepared for and executed significant transitions and subsequently executed the missions associated with these vital programs in support of our national security. In 2023, I successfully led the transition and startup of three programs from 50 to over 150 people across multiple geographic locations with clearances up to TS/SCI with polygraphs.
What are your primary focus areas going forward, and why are those so important to the mission?
We have focused on being the preeminent provider of cybersecurity services. Our mission sets include non-kinetic warfare, offensive and defensive cyber operations, coordinated vulnerability disclosure and cyber operations range support. We are at the tip of the spear supporting the fifth domain defending our country in partnership with the Air Force, DHS, CISA and USCYBERCOM. My focus going forward is to continue to create operational efficiencies and drive organic margin expansion across our portfolio of programs.
What is your best career advice for those who want to follow in your footsteps?
Push the envelope, trust your abilities and be curious. My career growth has come from always willing to do and try new things. By engaging in all aspects of the business within the GovCon space, I have taken on new adventures and responsibilities that I would have never dreamed of embarking on. It all starts with a little confidence, and a willingness and desire to grow. You may stumble on the journey, but it is well worth it when you reach the unknown destination.
Fun Fact: What is something about you that most people do not know?
I sing. I have sung my entire life, but most people in industry aren’t aware. I have had quite a few interesting encounters over the years meeting partners and customers in a business setting where they say things like “I think you sang at my daughter’s wedding,” or “Do you sing? I think I have a video of you on my phone!”
