Next is Jo Ann Bjornson, senior vice president and chief human resources officer at V2X, and finalist in the Public & Private Company Chief Human Resources Officer category. Here, she shares key achievements, focus areas going forward, career advice and more.
What key achievements did you have in 2023?
Through targeted strategies and effective leadership, I achieved a 10% organic headcount growth and staffing level increases across all top programs by enhancing recruiting efficiency and improving retention. I also harmonized and redesigned benefit offerings, which generated $6 million in annual savings. Additionally, our commitment to Environment, Health, and Safety initiatives led to a 20% reduction in insurance premiums. A major undertaking was the launch of a global job architecture redesign, aimed at increasing market competitiveness and enhancing career pathing opportunities.
Furthermore, I developed and sponsored an HR technology roadmap to improve workflows and augment the company’s capabilities in attracting, retaining, and rewarding employees efficiently. To accelerate cultural harmonization, I initiated the first combined engagement survey and conducted 360 assessments for key leaders, marking significant steps towards unifying our corporate culture.
What are your primary focus areas going forward, and why are those so important to the mission?
With the launch of our new brand, I aim to enhance V2X’s recognition in the market as a desirable employer by sharing more of our compelling story and mission. This strategic move is designed not only to attract talent but also to deepen our engagement with our existing workforce and stakeholders. Simultaneously, we are committed to continuing our efforts to act globally and with agility, ensuring we effectively mitigate risks for both ourselves and our customers. This dual approach helps us maintain a competitive edge and uphold our reputation as a reliable and innovative company.
What is your best career advice for those who want to follow in your footsteps?
Focus more on the journey and less on the destination.
