Carl Buffington, chief growth officer at Koniag Government Services, has won WashingtonExec’s 2024 Chief Officer Award for Chief Growth Officer in the Private Company (annual revenue greater than $500 million) category.
WashingtonExec on May 10 unveiled the winners of the Chief Officer Awards, an annual program that celebrates influential and innovative executives in government and industry in the C-suite. The event took place at The Hilton in McLean, Virginia, where hundreds of attendees came together for a memorable in-person luncheon.
Along with the government and industry winners, Richard Montoni, a director on Maximus board of directors who was the company’s CEO from 2006-2018, was honored with the 2024 Chief Officer Awards Lifetime Achievement Award. This award recognizes the career of a longtime, influential, impactful CEO who continues to share his perspective and expertise within and outside the GovCon industry. Montoni was introduced and honored by his successor, current Maximus CEO Bruce Caswell.
Buffington noted in his finalist Q+A with WashingtonExec that he led the development of an artificial intelligence tool called CASPER to expedite growth initiatives.
“By harnessing proprietary data models, similar to widely used platforms like Chat GPT, the tool essentially reduced the time required to draft a 20-page technical approach document by 80-90% into something that takes just 40 minutes,” he said. “It not only made the process much more efficient but also saved money and boosted data privacy.”
