The finalists for WashingtonExec’s Chief Officer Awards were announced March 28, and we’ll be highlighting some of them until the event takes place live, in-person May 10.

Next is Sean Robertson, chief growth officer at Iron Bow Technologies, and finalist in the Private Company Chief Growth Officer category (Annual Revenue greater than $500M). Here, he shares key achievements, focus areas going forward, career advice and more.

What key achievements did you have in 2023?

Under Robertson’s leadership, Iron Bow implemented a multi-year strategy that proved highly effective, driving the company to achieve $1.5 billion in revenue. This strategic overhaul marked a significant milestone for Iron Bow, showcasing Robertson’s ability to deliver tangible results.

Robertson led the charge for Iron Bow’s successful launch of its Sales Academy. This initiative exemplifies Robertson’s commitment to fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the sales organization. The Sales Academy serves as a testament to his forward-thinking approach, providing employees with valuable training and development opportunities.

Robertson’s tenure as chief growth officer has been characterized by a pragmatic and effective approach, resulting in significant financial milestones, improved client relations and sustained competitiveness within the market. His leadership during this period makes him a compelling nominee in the selected recognition area.

What are your primary focus areas going forward, and why are those so important to the mission?

In alignment with evolving customer needs, Robertson helped spearhead the rollout of Iron Bow’s Chief Strategy Office, a signature initiative aimed to enhance the company’s responsiveness to client requirements. In 2024 Robertson will continue his efforts to prioritize customer-centricity, ensuring that Iron Bow can adapt swiftly to changing demands and provide tailored solutions effectively.

He is also focused on fostering strategic growth for Iron Bow by empowering employees through initiatives like Iron Bow’s Sales Academy, and working closely with public sector customers to construct tailored offerings based on specific needs.

What is your best career advice for those who want to follow in your footsteps?

“The role of technology is rapidly changing for our customers and we are committed to providing the insight, expertise and support they need to achieve their goals,” Robertson said. “By identifying and tackling institutional problems such as outdated infrastructure and growing technical debt, we are helping public sector agencies modernize and deliver capabilities faster and with greater security. I’m proud to lead such a passionate and talented team who has not only generated fantastic results, but consistently demonstrates their willingness to go the extra mile for our customers.”

Fun Fact: What is something about you that most people do not know?

“In my spare time, I enjoy keeping active and have become an avid CrossFit enthusiast,” Robertson said. “I’m also well-known around the office for being an espresso aficionado. I love the intensity and focus that both bring into my life ⏤ it’s a unique combination that keeps me energized and motivated throughout the day!”
