    Bruce Phillips, SPA

    Bruce Phillips

Senior Vice President of Space & Intelligence Division, Systems Planning & Analysis

Bruce Phillips’ most significant achievement since joining the company in September 2022 was collaborating with leadership and staff to expand the Space and Intelligence Division. This growth has been both organic and through the acquisition of recent space companies.

SPA is expanding its facilities to better serve clients in defense, intelligence and space sectors. The company plans to make more acquisitions to improve in areas like digital engineering and data analytics. Additionally, SPA aims to maintain its status as a “Great Place to Work” to keep its skilled employees who support its customers effectively.

Phillips said during his early days at TASC, a mentor told him as a young engineer that their purpose was to “… make the complex, clear – through technical excellence, through management excellence, through communications excellence, through management of people excellence, and more.”

“In our rapidly changing national security environment where space and intelligence challenges are paramount, this quote helps me lead my team to accomplish big things,” he added.

    Why Watch

In 2024, Phillips’ team is focusing on improving software, cybersecurity and engineering for U.S. and allied space missions. They help with space awareness, battle management and communications, working closely with leaders and partners to develop key technologies for defense and intelligence. Given the growing competition in space, they’re also examining space challenges and how they connect with operations on Earth and in cyberspace.

Phillips is fascinated by how AI and machine learning technologies can improve systems engineering, quick decision-making and management in government programs.

“While much attention is rightly focused on applications of these emerging capabilities to missions, significant benefits are also available to support program management and infrastructure aspects of the business,” he said. “On the personal side, I’m loving life, now married 42 years to my wonderful wife Sharon, with a growing family, including 3 married children, and so far, 3 amazing grandchildren.”
