    Jason Payne, Microsoft Federal

    Jason Payne

    CTO, Microsoft Federal

For the past 18 months, Jason Payne led strategy aimed at assisting federal agencies through generative AI. Working with agencies and industry partners to comprehend the subtleties of the new technology, use cases and thought leadership applications supporting government missions, Payne emphasized responsible AI and helped the secure adoption of the technology within the government to align with compliance requirements. Plus, he aimed to integrate generative AI into existing mission systems where it could have the most impact and aided agencies in understanding the AI executive order and its implications.

“I’m energized by the excitement and interest I see for the application of artificial intelligence in government missions,” he said. “We have consistently been on the cusp of this groundbreaking technology, but today it is imminent, real, and the possibilities are only limited by our imagination.”

    Why Watch

Microsoft’s federal organization brings a unique combination of mission understanding, engineering expertise and leading technology to drive improved outcomes in government. As Payne’s team looks to the future, it’s focused on bringing the next generation of modern connected applications needed to support the nation’s challenges.

The team is excited about the transformational potential of highly distributed, low latency networks supporting global missions through orbital and 5G networks. Those networks will deliver AI-driven applications that improve citizen services, efficiency and automation, and transform data and intelligence into action. All of these applications are essential to security baselines that improve cyber resiliency and enable zero trust.

“With more than 20 years of experience in the tech industry, Jason is an incredibly talented leader who is constantly innovating and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible to meet our federal customers’ missions,” said Candice Ling, senior vice president at Microsoft Federal. “He also has a special ability to simplify complex, technical information into digestible and easy-to-understand concepts, which is a superpower of his. It’s clear that Jason is a leader to watch in the tech world, and we’re absolutely honored to have him on our team.”
