Acentra Health has acquired workplace mental health provider EAP Consultants, LLC, also known as Espyr. This move expands Acentra’s offerings, adding comprehensive Employee Assistance Program solutions to better meet increasing mental health and well-being needs for current and new clients.

“The combination of Acentra Health and Espyr aligns with the strategic objectives of both companies to be at the forefront of helping our clients address our nation’s mental health crisis,” said Todd Stottlemyer, CEO of Acentra Health.

Together, Acentra Health and Espyr will offer Employee Assistance Program solutions and services tailored for government and commercial organizations. They aim to support employees, students and their families with a range of services. These include clinical intake and support, work-life services like legal, financial, child, and elder care assistance, critical incident debriefings and various counseling options.

“I am excited about the combination of our highly skilled teams, our technology-enabled products, solutions, and services, and our increased ability to serve people in need of mental health services,” Stottlemyer said.

These services are increasingly important as mental illnesses affect over 20% of U.S. adults, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In response to guidelines from the Office of Personnel Management, more employers are improving their employee assistance programs.

“Today’s mental health crisis demands that we change our approach and seek new ways to reach people where they are, with the workplace having a central role,” said Rick Taweel, CEO of Espyr. “With more companies seeking to go beyond traditional EAP support, we believe our combined capabilities will help our clients meet and adapt to these changes and drive better outcomes in mental health and well-being.”

Acentra Health President and Chief Operations Officer Meghan Harris emphasized the company’s combined experience of over 30 years in workplace mental health and well-being programs. Acentra Health uses predictive analytics and advanced technology tools to develop customized solutions beyond traditional mental health counseling. With a network of over 5,900 providers and various support options, the company actively helps clients deliver mental health services promptly and effectively, improving well-being and health outcomes.

The combined company will maintain Acentra Health’s McLean, Virginia, offices as its headquarters.

Bailey & Company acted as the exclusive financial advisor to Espyr in connection with the transaction. Goodwin Procter LLP acted as legal advisor to Espyr. King & Spalding LLP acted as legal advisor to Acentra Health.
