Amentum has won a Defense Threat Reduction Agency contract worth $56.1 million to support the Defense Department’s Biological Threat Reduction Program mission.

The award has a 3-year base period of performance with options to extend the period of performance to five years. Work will be performed in and outside the U.S., with a specific focus on BTRP partners in Ethiopia and the African Union.

This contract expands Amentum’s international BTRP work in Africa. The company will work on securing dangerous pathogens, improving safety and security in laboratories, and helping partner countries better identify, track and manage diseases that are a global security risk.

“Amentum’s expertise in managing important national security missions with partner nations will be strengthened by modernizing construction delivery, smart logistics networks, sustainable training approaches and safe laboratory operations,” said Mark Whitney, president of Amentum’s National Security Group. “Our threat reduction capabilities and experience will enhance the ability of BTRP’s partners to detect and prepare for any biological threats that may impact our country, allies, and the African region.”

Amentum will also work with the African Union’s Pan African Veterinary Vaccine Center in Bishoftu, Ethiopia, to improve facility biosafety and biosecurity. This will involve building a new laboratory and training center, acquiring and setting up equipment, providing operational and maintenance support and improving safety measures. Additionally, Amentum will offer training in biosecurity.
