    Deborah Youmans, MITRE

    CIO, MITRE

The Enterprise Computing, Information, and Security team Deborah Youmans leads has been laser focused on providing the technical foundation to enable innovation at MITRE. They recently integrated AI into the employee onboarding process, developed MITRE ChatGPT and introduced a tool that offers employees easier access to information.

Under Youmans’ leadership, MITRE’s IT organization is pioneering unique and innovative approaches for its enterprise, positioning MITRE as a leader in the field, said MITRE Senior Vice President for Enterprise Innovation and Integration Cedric Sims.

“Deb is boldly venturing into uncharted territory, cultivating our culture of experimentation and exploration by integrating solutions in unprecedented ways, carving a path that addresses global challenges and contributes to a safer world,” he added.

Recently, her team developed new generative AI capabilities, such as MITRE ChatGPT. This is a private intelligent chat application that uses Microsoft Azure Open AI service, allowing MITRE staff to use GPT-4 with MITRE’s internal information.

    Why Watch

Youmans will continue to lead her team in developing valuable capabilities, including MITRE Insights. This AI-based tool, launched by the ECIS team, simplifies staff access to knowledge from MITRE’s research centers, innovation hubs, industry partnerships and independent studies.

MITRE has long used AI to assist new employees during onboarding, providing information to help them settle in. Youmans said her team plans to use new generative AI tools to bolster these efforts. These tools will help staff more efficiently form teams with the right skills and experience, and access the necessary knowledge to achieve their sponsors’ mission goals.

“I am excited to lead this team of highly seasoned professionals as we continue to balance innovation, research and development, experimentation and operations,” she said. “There are no easy answers in the world of enterprise IT. To stay ahead of what’s next, we must be in a constant state of readiness to anticipate those changes and be forward thinking to advance the mission of MITRE.”
