The finalists for WashingtonExec’s 2023 Pinnacle Awards were announced Sept. 25, and we’ll be highlighting some of them until the event takes place live, in-person Nov. 16.

Next is Shawna Li, a senior manager at EY, a finalist for DoD Executive of the Year, Private Company category. Here, she shares what made her successful, an inflection point in her career and proud career moments.

What has made you successful in your current role?

What fuels my success is having a high performing team where everyone, regardless of level, feels a sense of purpose supporting the client in their mission. Our clients have complex challenges that require diversity of thoughts and experiences, and I cannot do it alone.

In my current role, I am a firm believer that each person on the team has great ideas, and my goal is to foster an environment where my team can be creative, grow and collaborate to mature ideas and bring them to life.

What was a turning point or inflection point in your career?

A major turning point occurred when I began supporting Defense clients. I stumbled upon the opportunity several years ago after spending the majority of my time supporting civilian clients. The mission deeply resonated with me, and I was able to leverage my private sector and civilian experiences to ultimately defend our nation.

What are you most proud of having been a part of in your current organization?

I’m extremely proud to be part of the EY family; from senior Partners to Staff, we all live the core values through leading the team and serving our clients. When I interview perspective candidates and they ask this question, this is my answer.
