Tom Painter
Chief Human Capital Officer & Executive Vice President, System High
A big achievement for System High this year was its selection for The Washington Post Top Workplaces Award. This was the fourth time the company received this recognition, which means a lot to Tom Painter because it’s solely based on feedback provided by employees.
System High also earned the designation VETS Indexes 3-Star Employer for the organization’s commitment to recruiting, hiring, retaining, developing and supporting veterans and the military-connected community.
“We are very proud of our culture at System High,” Painter said.
Rob Howe, System High’s president and CEO, said: “I am grateful for Tom’s leadership in building a world-class human capital team. Taking care of our employees and their families is a top priority for me, and I trust our human capital team to deliver.”
Why Watch
System High plans to hire many more employees in the coming year, and its hiring team is ready to make that happen. The company is also working on giving training tools to supervisors. Painter thinks supervisors are very important for getting the job done and doing well in business. Supervisors not only manage their teams but also do regular tasks, sometimes moving up from being a team member to a leader. Making sure they do well is key to keeping good employees.
“The adage I live by is, ‘Assume Positive Intent,'” he said. “We are all so busy that it is easy to misinterpret others’ actions or statements, both in our business and personal lives. I try hard to always give the benefit of the doubt, and then adjust accordingly.”
