The finalists for WashingtonExec’s 2023 Pinnacle Awards were announced Sept. 25, and we’ll be highlighting some of them until the event takes place live, in-person Nov. 16.
Next is Space Executive of the Year finalist in the Private & Public category Milton Carroll, who is vice president of business development, Space & Intelligence sector at Peraton. Here, he shares primary focus areas going forward and proud career moments.
What are your primary focus areas going forward, and why are those so important to the future of the nation?
The team and I are focused on integrating commercial offerings into the work we’re doing at Peraton to provide the best of both worlds in our customer solutions. There has historically been a hesitancy to blend the two worlds, but the future of space requires us to leverage the full breadth of industry and government capabilities. The government has traditionally relied on the Space and Air Forces to support its launch mission.
With the addition of commercial actors combined with integrators like Peraton, the government will be able mature space capabilities at a faster pace, lower risk and without impacting taxpayer dollars. By leveraging our strategic partnerships, we make it happen.
As a trusted partner to essential government agencies, Peraton can provide zero trust architecture to protect commercial solutions that are aligned to the government’s standards. It’s an exciting time to work in space.
Looking back at your career, what are you most proud of?
The lives I’ve touched and the capabilities I’ve created. There are projects I worked on that are still making a difference for the customer today and there are colleagues I’ve mentored who have gone on to shine in their careers. One quote I like is: “A leader measures themselves by the success of their team.” If I look at the programs, people and government counterparts I’ve worked with and what they have evolved into, I’m proud.
