The finalists for WashingtonExec’s 2023 Pinnacle Awards were announced Sept. 25, and we’ll be highlighting some of them until the event takes place live, in-person Nov. 16.
Next is Healthcare Executive of the Year finalist in the Public Company category Jill Olmstead, who is federal health industry leader & HHS account leader at Accenture Federal Services. Here, she shares proud organizational moments and how she’s helping to shape the next generation of leaders.
What are you most proud of having been a part of in your current organization?
We’ve been able to significantly grow our presence in Federal health in recent years, expanding into new agencies and missions, and really leaning into technologies that enable data analytics and AI. It enables us to support some of our nation’s highest priorities ⏤ improved disease surveillance, cancer research, Veteran and military health services, Healthcare.gov, and even programs to help refugees resettle and begin new lives in the United States. I take real pride in being able to do the kind of work that makes a difference in people’s lives.
Part of the difference we make is with our Accenture employees. The work we do is not only rewarding for them, it creates opportunities for career growth. It’s great to see them take on new roles and new challenges.
How do you help shape the next generation of government leaders/industry leaders?
We are facing some incredible challenges and opportunities in healthcare that require strong leadership. Challenges such as soaring costs and clinician shortages are unlike those in the past. And the opportunities to use technology and data to improve health are likewise unprecedented. But the good news is if we take the right steps, we can help all people live longer and healthier lives.
To help health leaders take on these challenges and opportunities, we are working to develop what we call “future fluent” leadership. This means leaders understand how to harness both technology and data ⏤ and how to pivot in rapidly changing landscape. So we’re investing to make sure that the workforce is empowered with the skills and tools they need to take that vision forward. It’s this workforce that will make the future of health a reality.
