The finalists for WashingtonExec’s 2023 Pinnacle Awards were announced Sept. 25, and we’ll be highlighting some of them until the event takes place live, in-person Nov. 16.
Next is Jennifer Dunn, executive assistant and Siemens Government Technologies, who’s an Executive Assistant of the Year, Private & Public Companies finalist. Here, she talks about key accomplishments, what has made her successful, what she learned from failure and more.
What key achievements did you have in 2023?
I started with SGT in June of 2022 and quickly realized there was an Awards Conference that needed to be planned for January of 2023. I dove in and successfully completed all the logistical planning for the conference as well as heading up a charity event for Hope for Warriors where our employees came together to make care packages for wounded warriors’ caregivers.
The event was a big success and enjoyed by all who attended.
What has made you successful in your current role?
Flexibility and a positive attitude go a long way in this role. It’s part of why I love being an Executive Assistant – no two days are ever the same. I enjoy the challenges that come with this role and I work well under pressure.
What’s one key thing you learned from a failure you had?
Failures don’t mean you are a failure, it’s an opportunity to learn and grow. Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts – Winston Churchill
What’s your best career advice for those who want to follow in your footsteps?
Set goals for yourself; sometimes I think EA’s stay working for people that don’t appreciate them because they are afraid to make a change. Always give your best effort, and don’t be afraid to admit mistakes and learn from them.
