The finalists for WashingtonExec’s 2023 Pinnacle Awards were announced Sept. 25, and we’ll be highlighting some of them until the event takes place live, in-person Nov. 16.
Next is DoD Executive of the Year finalist in the Private Company category David Hathaway, who is the executive vice president and general manager of ManTech’s Defense Sector. Here, he shares recent key achievements and proud career moments.
What key achievements did you have in 2023?
For me I would have to say 2023 and 2022 were banner years for the Defense Sector team. We gained or awarded via recompete more than $2.3 billion in contract awards. These include a number of high-profile, transformational, technology-driven contracts, including:
- $622 Million U.S. Army Task Order (TITUS) to provide enterprise-wide integration and sustainment of systems to advance next generation analytics capabilities for the U.S. Army’s Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) C5ISR Center (Command, Control, Computers, Communications, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance).
- $862 Million U.S. Army Contract to Support Allied Logistics Engineering Capabilities and Sustainment (ALECS) of Systems and Vehicles to provide full lifecycle maintenance support to mission-critical systems and vehicles for the U.S. Army’s Program Executive Office, Combat Support and Service Support (PEO CS & CSS) and its customers under the Allied Logistics Engineering Capabilities and Sustainment (ALECS) program.
- $57 million contract by Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane: To develop world-class technology solutions that support advanced expeditionary weapon systems for U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM).
These wins are a testament to the skill, tenacity and camaraderie of my team, who continue to deliver for our DOD clients year after year, bringing digital to the mission, solving the toughest critical mission challenges and setting a high standard of excellence.
Looking back at your career, what are you most proud of?
Like many of us I’ve spent most of my life in and around defense. My father was an SES in the U.S. Navy and I served in the U.S. Air Force prior to starting a career in industry. I’m thankful for the opportunities I’ve had to lead talented professionals in solving our clients toughest problems. I’m most proud to see people that I’ve led and mentored over the years develop into great leaders in their own right, continuing to take on mission critical challenges in a very dynamic world.
