    When Catalina Murillo came on board as the new chief people officer at Intelligent Waves, she had a big task ahead of her: Taking a “failing people function that had low credibility with the business and endeavoring to understand the nuances of the context to begin rebuilding trust and regain credibility.”

    Succeeding under those circumstances and delivering on the company’s overall people strategy was her biggest recent achievement.

    “My team is dynamite, and they were craving a leader who understood and supported them, established a clear and realistic strategy, and helped them grow and learn,” Murillo said. “It is an honor to work with this people team as they inspire me to be a better leader and learn so much from them every day.”

    Why Watch

    Murillo and her team are collaborating with executives and other leaders to create an organization that prioritizes its people, making them feel valued and supported. Achieving this takes time, so they’re making gradual but meaningful progress every day. The team is also committed to building trust by delivering on its promises. In addition, they’re using proven, data-backed methods to make positive changes in the organization.

    “Maya Angelou’s quote below resonates deeply with me as it serves as a guide for living a purpose-driven life to continue to grow and learn and in turn help others thrive in the organizations in which I work to add value: ‘I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel,'” Murillo said.
