Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning Research Center Director & Chief Engineer of Intelligence & Law Enforcement Analytic Software Division, Noblis
As the leader of the Noblis Artificial Intelligence Research Center, Dr. Nick Bartlow employs a “lab-to-mission” approach that emphasizes the importance of transitioning Noblis-developed AI technology into public sector applications. He brings a technical background in software development and AI to his role leading research teams to build tools, services and applications that help ensure the nation’s vitality and security.
Most recently, Bartlow and his colleagues rolled out Noblis’ Responsible Artificial Intelligence Framework, a set of principles, training, procedures and tools that guide how Noblis develops and integrates AI technologies in support of its client missions.
“I am fortunate to have the opportunity to work at solving some of our nation’s most difficult technical challenges with incredibly skilled and motivated teams,” Bartlow said. “Seeing the results of our efforts rapidly transition into operational capabilities that positively impact the lives of Americans is the ultimate motivation.”
Why Watch
Moving past the buzzword nature of AI into responsible practical applications can be a daunting challenge. Bartlow and his colleagues work carefully and creatively to build effective solutions that also demystify AI, ensuring outcomes are safe, explainable, transparent and fair.
“The impacts of AI we have witnessed in just a few years are only the beginning,” said Rich Jacques, Noblis vice president for intelligence and law enforcement. “And while the future of AI is fascinating and intimidating at the same time, knowing incredible technical leaders like Nick Bartlow gives me confidence in exploring AI applications responsibly.”
