    Todd Borkey, HII

    Todd Borkey

Executive Vice President & Chief Technology Officer, HII

After witnessing the AI revolution in Silicon Valley in 2017, HII studied the research and began its organic campaign around AI applications for the defense market in 2018. By 2020, it was ranked by Deltek as one of the top 10 federal providers of AI.

“We were one of the first to deploy vision algorithms to video in unmanned assets, and we were one of the first to deploy multi-lingual Natural Language Processing into an operation,” Todd Borkey said.

Andy Green, executive vice president of HII and president of HII’s Mission Technologies division, said Borkey’s leadership is critical to the company’s long-term success.

“Todd is a unique individual who brings a rare combination of intellect, interpersonal skills, technical knowledge, strategic vision, energy and enthusiasm to HII. He and his team are transforming our Mission Technologies capabilities and also adding significant value to HII’s shipyards in Virginia and Mississippi,” he said.

    Why Watch

Borkey and his team continue to find countless opportunities to apply AI to big data problems across defense and intelligence markets. The Mission Technologies division is the fastest-growing division inside HII, and much of its growth comes from the data revolution tech now transitioning from Silicon Valley to the federal sector.

HII has begun to apply these technologies internally to its shipyards, resulting in benefits in quality, safety, through-put, supply chain, design and lifecycle management. Its manufacturing and sustainment work is also becoming data-driven and predictive.
