Matt Fouch, Subsea Data Systems; Samara/Data

    Matt Fouch

President and Co-Founder, Subsea Data Systems Chief Scientist and Co-Founder, Samara/Data

Matt Fouch used his management and research expertise to transform Samara/Data from a scientific consulting firm into a diverse company offering software, hardware and consulting services. Samara/Data serves a wide range of clients, including federal agencies, small high-growth companies, and scientific research-focused nonprofits.

An exciting new development is the establishment of Subsea Data Systems, a partnership between Samara/Data and Ocean Specialists, Inc. This collaboration focuses on developing sensor systems for SMART (Science Monitoring And Reliable Telecommunications) Cables. SMART Cables represent a groundbreaking advancement in ocean instrumentation, facilitating enhanced earthquake detection, tsunami warnings and global climate change monitoring.

According to Fouch, the ability to pivot and multitask has been the key to Samara/Data’s ongoing rapid growth and diversification.

“Our incredible teams at both Samara/Data and Subsea Data Systems are dedicated and diverse, enabling us to maintain steep growth trajectories in targeted markets,” he said. “We continue to carve out a unique space of project management, software development, and hardware products that benefit society in innovative and significant ways.”

    Why Watch

Apart from his role at Samara/Data, Fouch has led the rapid growth of Subsea Data Systems through strategic partnerships and non-dilutive funding. With his expertise spanning government, academia and industry, Fouch is set to drive further growth in 2023. The focus will be on developing technologies for detecting and monitoring natural hazards and global climate change.
