    Jill Thijs

Director of Resilience and Sustainability, Noblis

Noblis’ director of resilience and sustainability Jill Thijs is always thinking about the future, especially as it relates to her work with the Department of Defense.

“The U.S. military must maintain access to the critical resources needed for readiness, including water, energy, land and air,” Thijs said. “The work we are doing now may not be immediately visible, but it will make an essential impact five years, ten years and even decades from today.”

Recently, Thijs led the effort to develop the a Sustainability Plan for the Office of the Secretary of Defense that will drive innovation and solutions for human health and environmental challenges facing the defense activities of both America and its allies.

    Why Watch

“Jill provides an exceptional balance of passion, technical acumen and leadership in ensuring government awareness of critical environment strategies and technologies required to anticipate future climate impacts crucial to mission effectiveness of the DOD,” said Glenn Hickok, vice president for the Noblis Defense Mission.

Thijs sees a top priority in helping the DOD reduce its environmental impacts, ensuring that the warfighter can train and operate both today and in the future. She and her team are currently focused on creating risk mitigation and sustainability plans to enable a mechanism for fact-based decision making and build a climate-literate workforce.
