    Jeff Arnold, MITRE Corp.

    Jeff Arnold

Chief Scientist, Climate and Environmental Sciences, MITRE Corp.

Jeff Arnold came to MITRE in April 2022 to serve as its first chief scientist for climate and environmental sciences, bringing with him a 25-year history in atmospheric science research and hydro-climate engineering applications across three federal agencies.

Now, from the Emerging Technologies Division of MITRE’s Applied Sciences sub-sector, Arnold is helping develop and implement MITRE’s climate and environmental projects across the company.

The projects encompass a wide range of tasks, including addressing science and engineering challenges to bolster the security of digital and physical infrastructure against climate change impacts. They also involve selecting suitable climate change scenarios for testing resilience strategies and emphasizing the importance of equitable distribution of climate data, models and tools. The ultimate goal is to enhance climate change resilience in communities that face the highest risks.

    Why Watch

In 2023, Arnold is leading the implementation of MITRE | ADAPT, the company’s new modular framework of networked data, numerical model products, and quantitative insights designed to better inform decisions over the effects, costs and uncertainties of climate change adaptation actions.

“With MITRE | ADAPT, Jeff is helping build our climate and environmental work by analyzing and integrating climate science products already in the public domain with our own data science, assured artificial intelligence methods, and engineering application tools,” said Chris Fall, MITRE vice president for applied science.

“Then the resulting climate change scenarios and guidance are tailored for the specific threats, vulnerabilities and impacts our sponsors are confronting now and can anticipate encountering faster and more often in the future.”
