Edwin Oshiba, Department of the Air Force

    Edwin Oshiba

Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Energy, Installations and Environment, Department of the Air Force

Edwin Oshiba’s notable recent accomplishment was leading the development and execution of the Department of the Air Force’s Climate Plan. This initiative was undertaken with the recognition that climate change is transforming the global landscape, and it is imperative to adapt and address this significant threat.

The plan does this by ensuring the department is resilient to the effects of climate change and preserves a combat-credible force that can compete, deter and win against the nation’s pacing threats.

“Deputy Assistant Secretary Oshiba epitomizes the dedication and devotion of our nation’s career executive workforce,” said Ravi Chaudhary, the assistant secretary of the Air Force, Energy, Installations & Environment.

“Mr. Oshiba’s tireless leadership has shaped the future of the Department of the Air Force, including our response to climate change. For his dedication, the Secretary of the Air Force saw fit to decorate Mr. Oshiba with the Exceptional Civilian Service citation, the highest award that can be bestowed upon a civilian serving in our Department.”

    Why Watch

In 2023, Oshiba and his team are heavily focused on implementing the Climate Plan’s 19 key results. To do this, they are establishing governance structures to oversee specific actions, timelines and metrics that will drive measurable outcomes over the next several decades. This will ensure the Department of the Air Force maintains air and space dominance in the face of climate risks.

“I’m incredibly fortunate to be part of an unrivaled team of dedicated professionals ⏤ they are the ones that deserve the accolades for the progress we’ve made in addressing the challenges of climate change,” Oshiba said. “I’m confident we will be successful in overcoming the impacts of climate change and continue to deliver air and space dominance for the nation.”
