    Mark Flugge

Sustainability and Climate Change Lead, CGI Federal

Mark Flugge believes improving sustainability and addressing climate change is everyone’s responsibility. Beginning his career as an atmospheric scientist, he holds a Doctor of Philosophy in atmospheric chemistry from Oxford University.

Flugge has spent the past 15 years advising global organizations and federal agencies on issues related to greenhouse gas emissions, climate change and biodiversity.

As CGI Federal’s sustainability and climate change lead since 2022, Flugge has accelerated progress on the company’s net-zero commitments. He drives sustainable transformation across the organization, implementing eco-friendly office supplies and expanding the use of renewable energy. Flugge’s efforts resulted in CGI achieving a platinum rating from Ecovadis, placing the company in the top 1% for sustainable business practices.

Recognizing the imperative for federal agencies to transform, Flugge leads CGI Federal’s Sustainability and Climate Change Practice. He is passionate about partnering with agencies and industry to help operationalize the Federal Sustainability Plan. He speaks widely with clients and at industry events on topics such as developing roadmaps for more sustainable operations and harnessing the power of data to measure the effectiveness of sustainability efforts.

    Why Watch

A successful roadmap to sustainability requires an understanding of international trends and best practices, evolving legislation and policy, and emerging technology. Flugge is committed to addressing sustainability challenges with solutions that scale. His experience and tailored insights make him well positioned to advise federal leaders in evaluating the necessary enablers and developing concrete actions.

“As agencies expand the role sustainability plays in operations, they must act with urgency, in ways that are measured, managed and future-proofed against administration changes and litigation challenges,” he said.

Flugge is actively involved in the federal sustainability community, serving on various working groups, sustainability councils and climate change committees. Recently, he spoke on an AFFIRM event panel and moderated a session at the ACT-IAC Climate Change Summit, engaging with agency chief sustainability officers.
