    Steve Hittle, ECS

The finalists for WashingtonExec’s Chief Officer Awards were announced March 17, and we’ll be highlighting some of them until the event takes place live, in-person May 10.

Next is Chief Information Officer finalist in the Public Company category Steve Hittle, CIO of ECS. Here, he talks learning from failures, proud organizational moments and more.

What has made you successful in your current role?

Hands down, the most important key to the success that I have had in this role and other roles in my career is relationship building. When you build relationships, you can help influence people to work together and get projects done. Regardless of your level of authority, if you have good relationships, you can inspire people to be the best versions of themselves.

What’s one key thing you learned from a failure you had?

That it’s ok to ask for help. As leaders, we need to set better examples for our teams when it comes to humility and not letting pride get in the way of the best path forward.

What are you most proud of having been a part of in your current organization?

I take the most pride in the role that I played in the development of the ECS DE&I council and working group. Moreover, the opportunity to sponsor the Wellness ERG has not only brought me pride but has given me clarity in many other areas of my career path.
