Bruce Caswell
President & CEO, Maximus
Bruce Caswell became the CEO of Maximus in April 2018 and has helped the company grow by winning important contracts, expanding into new markets and integrating strategic acquisitions. In the past year, Maximus also opened a new headquarters, updated its long-term strategy and worked with others to create its global core values.
“Maximus employees personify resilience and dedication, as they’ve come together to serve tens of millions of citizens through the pandemic and help our government customers deliver programs critical to their mission and our nation’s well-being,” Caswell said.
Fiscal year 2022 revenue increased 8.9% to a record $4.63 billion. This growth was fueled by a combination of new wins and expansion of comprehensive services offered by Maximus, most notably in the area clinical-type services which includes supporting our nation’s veterans.
“We have been able to successfully accomplish projects that at first seemed impossible,” Caswell said. “The lessons learned through our agile yet scaled response to the pandemic, coupled with strategic investments in areas like cloud computing, create a sound foundation for the future.”
The new Maximus headquarters in McLean, Virginia, opened in May. The office was designed to promote a sense of community and prioritize employee well-being.
“Our employees are our greatest asset,” Caswell said. “We focused on creating a work environment that underscores the importance of collaboration to drive ideas and innovation in the work they do.”
Why Watch
Maximus’ strategic direction is focused on three key pillars: customer service, digitally enabled; advanced technologies for modernization; and future of health. The company’s new tagline, “Moving People Forward,” represents its vision for the future.
The direction reflects longer-term trends in modernizing the delivery of critical government services, only accelerated by the pandemic. Agency IT modernization initiatives aim to improve the citizen experience through virtual delivery. This must be done while maintaining high standards for quality and accountability of program outcomes.
Anne Altman, co-vice chair of the Maximus board of directors, said Caswell’s leadership has “demonstrated clarity of focus” and “the commitment and agility to address client needs and changing market dynamics.”
“Bruce‘s passion for the mission of Maximus has led to key investments,” she added. “That means creating an elevated customer experience through intelligent automation; expanding clinical capabilities to address the accelerating need for health services; and investing in advanced technologies for modernization.”
