Kevin Wideman, Koniag Government Services

The Top Workplaces USA 2023 awards have recognized Koniag Government Services in the category of companies with 1,000 to 2,500 employees. The company’s CEO Kevin Wideman has also been singled out as one of the most Accomplished Black Executives by Virginia Business.

Based on feedback from an employee engagement survey, Top Workplaces USA 2023 celebrates nationally recognized companies that make the world a better place to work, by prioritizing a people-centered culture and giving employees a voice.

Virginia Business reports that in just over four years, Wideman has quintupled the annual revenues of his Fairfax County-based government contracting agency from $100 million to $500 million. He has grown its workforce from 130 to more than 2,100 employees and landed it multiple times on the Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing U.S. private companies.

Wideman previously was president of Vistronix Enterprise Solutions and a vice president at General Dynamics Information Technology Inc.

“As a minority, doors aren’t always open,” he told Virginia Business, adding his mother instilled in him a lifelong work ethic.

Wideman highlighted the Alaska Native-owned KGS’ diversity and its culture of fairness and inclusiveness, including its Next Generation Leadership program, which helps employees master the skills they need to become managers.

“It’s not ‘I did it,’” he said, “but ‘we did it.’”
