    Melanie Anderson, Huntington Ingalls Industries

    Melanie Anderson

Senior Vice President of Human Resources, Huntington Ingalls Industries

Melanie Anderson joined HII in 2017 — right after the company created the Technical Solutions division. She guided the human capital transformation as the organization shaped a diverse portfolio of non-shipbuilding capabilities and grew the business from 10% of HII’s annual revenue to 25%.

“HII Mission Technologies is in a period of unprecedented growth,” said Andy Green, president of HII Mission Technologies. “We’ve grown our revenues from $691 million in 2016 to more than $1.4 billion in 2021, and our workforce has nearly doubled to more than 7,000. We couldn’t do it without Melanie’s leadership and her exceptional team of human capital professionals. I’m proud of our past and excited about our future – and it all comes down to our people.”

Anderson is pleased with the company’s ability to quickly respond to a hypercompetitive labor market while integrating HII’s largest acquisition (Alion Science and Technology in 2021) to form the Mission Technologies division.

“We have a unique opportunity to reinvent ourselves,” she said.

    Why Watch

In 2022, the leaders in HII’s business are heavily focused on growth and the attraction and retention of great talent. That means meeting the evolving needs of customers and having a workforce ready to meet them. They are also focused on providing greater development and opportunities for career growth internally.

HII also takes great pride in its culture and strives to create a highly engaged and mission-focused workplace.

“Candidates come for the interesting work but stay for their colleagues and positive culture,” Anderson said. “We believe we win through culture. We are laser-focused on high integrity. We will always do the right thing by our employees, customers and shareholders.”
