Susan Penfield

CTO, Booz Allen Hamilton

Susan Penfield’s biggest recent achievement was launching Booz Allen Ventures, the company’s $100 million corporate venture capital fund. It invests in early-stage technology poised to transform the federal technology market and focuses on early-stage companies innovating in four main areas: artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, the digital battlespace and deep tech.

“We help bring their tech to market ⏤ providing technical and strategic support, increasing speed to deployment, and eliminating traditional barriers to moving R&D out of the lab and into the field,” Penfield said. “We’ve made three strategic investments so far and are poised to make more soon. Stay tuned!”

Why Watch

Penfield said she’s incredibly proud of her team that’s kept busy. In November, it opened the doors to The Helix, Booz Allen’s reimagined Center for Innovation. Two years in the making, The Helix is an immersive and compelling showcase of the company’s transformative tech.

“Our goal is to bring emerging tech to life ⏤ making the application of these technologies to our clients’ complex missions accessible, explainable and within reach,” Penfield said. “We hope everyone will come check out this amazing space.”

Her team also recently launched its inaugural technology publication, “Velocity: Insights for Federal Innovators.” The magazine explores what’s next for emerging tech in government and features expert perspectives from Booz Allen, academia, industry and the startup community.

“Susan Penfield is the ultimate problem solver and heart-led leader,” said Horacio Rozanski, Booz Allen president and CEO. “She keeps people at the center and has dedicated her life to using technology to make the world a better place for all of us.”
