General Dynamics Information Technology was awarded an $84 million contract by the Defense Health Agency to support the Traumatic Brain Injury Center of Excellence.
The contract has an 8-month base period with three option years.
Traumatic brain injury is a significant health issue, with over 459,000 Defense Department personnel diagnosed since 2000. TBICoE conducts research and promotes state-of-the-science care for service members, veterans and their families.
GDIT will continue to support TBICoE in conducting clinical research, surveilling TBIs across the DOD, developing clinical recommendations, translating research findings into education tools, and disseminating these products to military health care providers, service members, veterans and their families.
“Our work over the past eight years with the TBICoE has yielded new advancements in the diagnosis and treatment of traumatic brain injuries,” said Kamal Narang, GDIT vice president and general manager for federal health.
GDIT will also partner with TBICoE and DOD on the execution of current and future congressionally mandated projects. These include the 15-year longitudinal study of TBI incurred by the armed forces in Afghanistan and the Iraq wars, as well as the Warfighter Brain Health program.
“We are proud of our researchers and scientists who support TBICoE’s mission every day, and we look forward to partnering with them to address future brain health challenges,” Narang said.
Since 2014, GDIT has supported TBICoE across 21 military treatment facilities and trauma rehabilitation sites worldwide. GDIT researchers and scientists have published more than 250 articles in leading scientific journals highlighting findings and advancements in the diagnoses, treatment and prevention of TBIs.
