John Mandell
Managing Director, National Security, Maximus
For John Mandell, national security has been the core of his work as a technology executive for over a decade. His experience includes work at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and the Transportation Security Administration. HIs expertise across digital transformation such as DevSecOps practices and advanced analytics has set Maximus up for success.
“We’ve been able to consistently deliver cyber, analytics, and IT modernization solutions to agencies, and those successes have helped us grow,” Mandell said. “We understand the specific strategic, technology and operational challenges facing national security agencies and how to address them. That has earned us the invaluable trust of agencies.”
One example is the company’s work with cybersecurity in the wake of COVID-19. Agencies grew concerned with their set of cyber tools and practices as remote work took off, which opened up new avenues of attack. Mandell and his team focused on improving their cyber offerings with more automation, the use of emerging technologies and overall process improvement.
In other areas, Mandell and his team are creating customer-centered digital solutions integrating advanced analytics and DevSecOps to deliver business value to their customers. These solutions are integrating data across federal missions and facilitating cross-agency collaboration on important national security missions.
“Our customers trust us to look at the big picture and react quickly when needs occur,” Mandell said. “We bring the capabilities of a large organization and a culture that promotes creativity and keeps us agile and responsive to change.”
Why Watch
Looking ahead, Mandell has identified three key areas Maximus will focus on: cybersecurity, advancing the use of artificial intelligence, and improving the customer journey and experience.
“AI can be a great force for good, but we need to use it smartly and safely and educate people on how to work with AI,” Mandell said. “For customer journey, it’s critical to increase the focus on positively impacting how citizens interact with the government.”
