EverWatch’s chief growth officer, Fred Funk, is remembered as a true gentleman who offered solid counsel on work and play alike.
Funk had battled brain cancer before passing away May 2 at age 56.
Those who knew Funk say he worked hard and played harder. A sports enthusiast, Funk loved the Virginia Tech Hokies, Baltimore Ravens and Baltimore Orioles. He loved visiting unique vineyards, relaxing at the beach and going on adventures with his partner of 17 years, Suzanne Rogers.
“He was on our board at CyberCore, and he was always full of life, always offered great guidance and counsel and he was our wine connoisseur,” said Adam Omar, chief financial officer at Altamira Technologies Corp. “A true gentleman and a huge loss to our community. May he rest In peace.”
Funk had brought more than 30 years of experience in the intelligence, defense and commercial markets, and also had his own advisory LLC. He served as president of ASRC Federal’s Cyber and SIGINT Systems Division. He also previously ran the intelligence business for Vistronix and grew the intelligence business of Preferred Systems Solutions by more than 300% in less than 16 months.
Earlier in his career, Funk co-founded KeyW Corp., and before that, was responsible for mergers and acquisitions at Essex Corp. which grew from $15 million in revenue to more than $300 million in revenue in just three years.
He held an MBA from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering from Virginia Tech.
Outside of the positions he held, Funk served on the board of Maryland Therapeutic Riding, a nonprofit focused on improving the quality of life for children, adults, active military members and veterans with special needs through therapeutic horseback riding.
According to his obituary, Funk is survived by his father, Fred J. Funk and brother Stephen W. Funk of Newtown Square. He is also survived by his two nieces, Marion Seigle of Clemmons, North Carolina, and Rachel Funk of Newtown Square, and “Fred’s four-legged best buddy, Wookie.”
