    Ronald Moore

Chief Information Security Officer, General Dynamics Mission Systems

Ronald E. Moore joined General Dynamics Mission Systems as chief information security officer in 2015 and is the recipient of the prestigious Stephanie C. Hill Legacy Award for the 2022 Black Engineer of the Year Award.

Upon joining General Dynamics Mission Systems, Moore began helping the company successfully integrate two large cyber organizations, culminating in a new unified department culture that’s customer centric and focused on developing solutions that help meet the strategic objectives of the business.

Having served as a U.S. Marine for seven years, Moore’s allegiance to men and women in service is proven in his dedication to continuous improvement and innovation as he works with his teams to identify what’s needed to keep them safe.

As part of this focused effort to combat attacks, Moore designed strategies to mitigate targeted cyber intrusions and improve defenses against an advanced adversary. This resulted in the inception of Cyber360: the ability to detect suspicious activity in real time across the enterprise and respond with extreme prejudice to thwart a cyberattack or predict with supreme accuracy a potential threat, preventing a malicious event from occurring.

Moore is a motivational leader who supports his teams and encourages innovation, using the “fail fast” model to bring about agile change and advancement.

“Don’t be afraid to take risks,” he said. “It’s easy for us to want to do what’s comfortable. You have to be in a mindset that you’re willing to take risks and allow yourself to be challenged. It’s OK to make mistakes. What’s important is that you learn from them and move forward.”

     Why Watch

Moore’s ability to navigate the current cyber landscape and translate critical needs into action is an essential asset to his role. He recently worked to implement key applications and processes to ensure General Dynamics Mission Systems stays ahead of cyber threats and evolves its zero trust model of operations.

In 2022, Moore is focused on building a secure digital foundation based on zero trust principles that aligns with the company’s strategic objectives. He’s planning to deliver on-demand access to cloud-based resources with enhanced security through zero trust network access and SD-WAN.
