Global engineering and defense technologies provider Huntington Ingalls Industries has promoted Edmond Hughes to executive vice president and chief human resources officer. Susan Jacobs replaces Hughes as vice president of HR and administration of Ingalls Shipbuilding.

Hughes, formerly the vice president of HR and administration contracts at HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division and at Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding since 2006, will replace William “Bill” R. Ermatinger, who retires April 1 after 35 years of service.

“Bill’s leadership has been critical to the evolution and growth of HII. It is a testament to his success that we have a deep bench of talent to fill his shoes,” said President and CEO Mike Petters.

In prior roles, Hughes led HR at General Motors and TRW Automotive.

Jacobs has served as vice president of HR at HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division since 2016, and before that as director of HR and administration for more over 9 years at Ingalls.

Prior to Jacobs’ role at Ingalls, she was senior director of HR for L-3 Communications.
